Tangerine Rain was created in mid 2020 under challenging circumstances. The four of us happened to be thrown together in a collaboration class as part of some Masters studies, coming from diverse musical backgrounds and sensibilities. We had to create this collaboration without being able to actually meet and work together on the spot as had been planned and was the usual practice. It was during one of those endless, strict lockdowns in Melbourne which happened for months at a time till the end of 2021. Each of us had to work in isolation with the instruments and equipment we had at home, facing certain limitations not having the well equipped music studios and spaces of the institution at our disposal like in a normal scenario. For example, I only had an out of tune, old piano at hand: I improvised fragmentary motives on it, processed them minimally and used excerpts of my work "Poème d'espace". We shared music files & ideas with each other via dropbox and met on Zoom for discussions. The concert presentation itself also had to take place online but the work was received well.
